BARNSLEY’S budding young athletes got the chance to quiz Olympian Dorothy Hyman when she took part in a question and answer session at Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre.
Dorothy and a group of youngsters from Barnsley Athletics Club were filmed in conversation at the facility in Cudworth for a Sky Sports News feature, which will air to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8.
During the interview, they got the opportunity to ask Dorothy, who won sprint medals at the 1960 and 1964 Olympic Games, more about how she got into athletics and what it takes to reach the highest levels of the sport.
Operator BPL’s Facility Manager at Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre Martin Prest said: “It was a really motivating and inspiring event and Dorothy gave some great tips and advice.
“Dorothy is a big supporter of our local community and the interaction between her and the budding athletes was fantastic. Everyone really enjoyed it.”
Named after the Olympic medal-winning sprinter, Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre is home to a wide variety of sporting activities indoor and out, including Astroturf and grass pitches, a 400m running track, badminton and squash facilities and a fully equipped gym.
